Digital Services Librarian – Gateway Seminary – Ontario, CA

Job Summary

This position fulfills a combination of responsibilities, primarily in services with an emphasis on coordinating access to, development and control of electronic collections and resources for students, faculty and staff.

Job Responsibilities

The following duties are considered essential to the job. With or without reasonable accommodation, qualified individuals must have the ability to perform the following duties:

  • Supervise management of electronic collections and resources with an emphasis on best practices in use of the integrated library system (OCLC WMS) and link resolver software.
  • Maintain library web sites, revising and updating as necessary
  • Work closely with library staff for collection development, acquisitions, cataloging, periodicals/microforms, document delivery and information technology to develop and to manage library collection in all formats.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors for selection, trials, implementation, troubleshooting and use of the electronic collection.
  • Participate in the development of Library initiatives to develop the institutional repository, including digital theses and DMin projects; collaborate on the development and implementation of policies, access methods, and technical standards.
  • Provide support by tracking and reporting customer usage of electronic collection.
  • Cooperate with the Information Technology department to maintain and upgrade all library workstations.
  • Work with Public Services Librarian to provide reference and instructional services.
  • Prepare documentation, guides and brochures to facilitate electronic collection use; promote library partnerships with teaching faculty, administration and students.
  • Maintain library software administration module.
  • Perform additional duties as required by management.

Educational/Experiential Requirements

Education and/or Experience: ALA accredited Masters in Library and Information Science. Knowledge of cataloging standards. Experience in using integrated library systems and electronic serials linking software to manage electronic resources. Experience in acquiring and setting up access to electronic resources. Preferred: Knowledge of one or more major descriptive metadata standards and coding approaches for metadata mapping HTML/XHTML expertise.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak and perform effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to think creatively to address library patrons’ questions.

Software: Experience using Dreamweaver and advanced skills in Microsoft Access and Excel. Knowledge of network technologies and languages such as Unix, Linux, XML, Perl, SQL, and etc. desired.
