Reference & Circulation Coordinator – Nelson University – Waxahachie, TX

Position (Reference & Circulation Coordinator): This position requires a general knowledge of library functions and experience in the areas of Reference and Circulation. This person must be a good communicator, comfortable working with students, and able to implement library policies and protocols. Must be able to maintain an environment conducive to study.

Job Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the library reference/circulation desk coverage
  • Assist with coordinating student worker schedules using Sling Assist, train, and monitor student workers
  • Supervise library stacks maintenance
  • Process Interlibrary Loans using WorldShare
  • Process mailing of resources to patrons
  • Help patrons locate print resources using the library catalog and Dewey classification
  • Help patrons navigate databases to find: articles, e-books, subject guides, course reserves
  • Respond to patron email or telephone inquiries
  • Troubleshoot technology (printers, copiers, computers)
  • Interact with patrons, including collection of fines or fees
  • Help plan and/or coordinate hospitality, events, and seasonal displays

Other Tasks, as needed:

  • Participate in special projects, such as inventory or scanning/digitization of records
  • Assist with mending or repair of books

Technology: Microsoft Word, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Access It (library catalog), WorldShare, Google Drive, OneDrive, Canva, SpringShare LibApps

Organizational Relationships: The Reference & Circulation Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Library Services and must assume responsibility of library functions upon Library Director or Librarian absence(s). This role helps supervise student worker activity and special projects.

Qualifications:

  • Faith, service, and lifestyle that meets University expectations (See IPM sections: “Statement of Core Values,” “Doctrinal Statement,” “Christian Standards,” “Lifestyle Standard.”)
  • Preferred, a bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience in a public or academic library
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in circulation software and Microsoft products
  • Ability to interact with colleagues and patrons in a cooperative spirit of teamwork

Educational/Experiential Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience in a public or academic library, preferred.
