Librarian Career
My professional career began…as a cataloger at Philadelphia College of Bible, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Between the Pages: Getting to Know Our Member of the Month
Describe yourself using a book title: “Ballparks, yesterday and today.” I love baseball and usually have on my St. Louis Cardinals hat at conference.
What’s the best thing about being a librarian? I think that the best thing about being a librarian, particularly a cataloger, is that you are contributing to the knowledge base of the world.
What are you currently reading? I’ve been reading historical fiction. I really enjoyed Ralph Peters, Darkness at Chancellorsville.
How do you as a librarian contribute to your campus or community? In my retirement, I serve as President of Wilmore Lions Club and as Treasurer of Lexington Emmaus Community.
Do you have any specific interests in the library world? I have enjoyed the opportunities to do some library work abroad in various places, and of course, there is my participation on the CPI team.
What are your hobbies or interests outside of work? Stamp collecting, travel, watching sports.
ACL Involvement
How were you introduced to ACL? My mother, Ruth Butler, was one of the “founding mothers” of Christian Librarians’ Fellowship (precursor to ACL).
Describe ACL in three words: Fellowship, Librarianship, Professional.
What do you value about ACL? Friendships made over the years.
How are you or have you been involved in ACL? I’ve had the joy of serving ACL in a variety of roles over the years. I’ve served as a Member-at-Large on the ACL Board, been part of the leadership team for the Liberal Arts Section, and have contributed to the Christian Periodical Index team since 1982. I’ve also been active on the ACL Prayer Team and have attended many conferences throughout the years, including serving on the local hosting team when the conference was held at Asbury University in 2018 and 2003.
