Job Responsibilities

Friends University is seeking to fill the Library Assistant – Circulation Manager position in Wichita, Kansas. This position will serve library patron’s needs in a cooperative, efficient, and informed manner that enhances their experience at the library and connects them to important library resources and services; to circulate library materials and manage patron records; and to retrieve materials on a timely basis. Manages Day Circulation Department, participates in Library instruction and reference services, and jointly hires, trains, and supervises Library student workers with the Evening Circulation Manager. Work hours are typically 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Educational/Experiential Requirements

Two years’ experience in a library setting preferred. Experience in and knowledge of office equipment and software required. Some experience in library systems preferred.

Master of Library Science degree required. Applicants currently enrolled and actively pursuing a Master of Library Science degree are invited to apply if they have successfully completed at least one half (1/2) of the Master of Library Science degree.

Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation. Excellent written, oral, and strong interpersonal communication skills are required. Computer proficiency and the ability to maintain confidential information in a professional manner is required. Specific experience in library office equipment and computer software (databases, internet applications, and library management systems) preferred.
