Public Services Librarian – Patrick Henry College – VA

Job Summary: The Public Services Librarian assists the Director of the Library in carrying out the library’s mission through reference services and the management of circulation, interlibrary loan, and course reserves. This staff position requires an experienced candidate committed to serving a Christian academic community.

Job Responsibilities

The position is responsible for library functions as assigned by the Director of the Library including:

  • Coordination of day-to-day public service operations
  • Management of the Circulation Desk
  • Training and supervision of student Circulation Desk personnel
  • Management of the library’s reserve collection of textbooks and required readings
  • Management of Interlibrary Loan service
  • Performance of research assistance for students and faculty as needed
  • Outreach to distance learning students
  • Information literacy instruction as needed
  • Development of online Research Guides for all core courses and for upper-level courses by faculty request
  • Updating and maintaining the Circulation Desk Notebook of task instructions
  • Suggesting updates to the Library User Guide of circulation policies for Director approval
  • Assistance with administrative tasks including policy document maintenance, assessment activities, and statistics reporting
  • Participation in an ongoing program of professional development and training
  • Special projects as assigned by the Director of the Library

Education/Experiential Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science
  • Minimum of three years of professional library experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Evidence of professional commitment and activity
  • Ability to work collegially and communicate effectively with a wide variety of constituents

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding and experience across a broad spectrum of library work, including circulation management, interlibrary loan management, academic instruction, course reserves, and research assistance
  • Experience with library software like OCLC WorldShare Management System and a variety of academic library databases
  • Experience with a website manager like HubSpot
