Job Summary
The Everett L. Cattell Library at Malone University seeks an energetically innovative Director of Library Services to lead the library staff in fulfilling Malone’s mission to “provide students with an education based on biblical faith in order to develop men and women in intellectual maturity, wisdom, and Christian faith who are committed to serving the Church, community, and world.”
Reporting to the Provost, the Director of Library Services administers all aspects of the university’s library including the supervision of library professional and support staff and the integration of library services and resources into the university’s educational mission. Chief duties include operational and fiscal oversight of all library functions; managing collection development; leading the library staff in strategic and annual planning; and classroom instruction for 1 class each semester. This position includes the opportunity to serve as archivist for the Malone University and Evangelical Friends Church-Eastern Region historical collections. The director represents and advocates for the library through the Ohio Private Academic Libraries and OhioLINK consortia, as well as various state and national library associations.
Job Responsibilities
- Providing visionary oversight of all aspects of the university’s library, staff, and resources.
- Collaborating with library staff and university faculty to provide exceptional service and the highest quality resources for Malone’s students.
- Preserving the past, sharing the present, and embracing for the future of Malone and the Evangelical Friends Church-Eastern Region (EFC-ER) by caring for and developing their historical archives and related special collections.
- Actively engage in the university’s educational mandate by teaching one course each semester.
Educational/Experiential Requirements
- Commitment to the mission of Malone University and to the integration of faith, service, and daily work.
- A Master’s Degree in Library Science
- A second advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master’s level)
- Administrative ability: at least 5 years of library experience in an academic library, with progressive leadership experience.
- Experience in developing and controlling departmental budgets
- Ability to relate well to students, faculty, and library colleagues.
- Demonstrated ability in both written and oral communication.
- Familiarity with emerging library technologies, trends, and practices.
- Commitment to assessment and to data-driven decision-making.
- Familiarity with licensing issues and with copyright law, especially as applied to educational settings
