Library Director - Montana Bible College - Bozeman, MT

JOB SUMMARY
The Library Director is responsible for the management of all library operations including patron services, technical services, acquisitions, cataloging, supervision and training of all library personnel. Other responsibilities include promotion of the library, planning, budgeting and accounting all financial affairs related to the library. This faculty position acts as the liaison between the library and larger institution; including cooperative efforts with board members, faculty, and staff. This position requires a working knowledge of current and emerging information technologies; and an awareness of challenges facing libraries, and must be able to forecast attainable goals. The Library Director reports to the Academic Dean. The Director must maintain some flexibility of hours to accommodate the needs of the library.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily and special circulation duties;
  • Assists patrons as needed and in special requests;
  • Promotes library services to students, includes outreach to local community members;
  • Strategically plans future of library services;
  • Manages the library budget for the purchase of books, e resources, supplies, technology, library memberships, dues, continuing education and other purchases as needed;
  • Oversees recruiting and training of all library personnel;
  • Oversees supervision and scheduling of all library personnel in specific library duties and patron services;
  • Selects and orders library resources;
  • Directs original cataloging;
  • Oversees cataloging and integration of all library resources;
  • Participates with faculty in planning of the curriculum;
  • Prepares and conducts library orientation sessions for all new students;
  • Oversees promotion of library services;
  • Instructs students from the Effective Written Communication class concerning information literacy;
  • Chairs meetings of the Library Committee;
  • Maintains liaison relationships with Montana Shared Catalog, TRAILS, and other helpful liaisons, as needed;
  • Oversees maintenance of library web page, online catalog, and e resources;
  • Maintains accreditation standards for library services and oversees all self-study documents; responsible for all ongoing assessment activities
  • Develops (as needed) and maintains library policy and procedures;
  • Directs on-site monetary collections and fiscal reporting per MBC policies;
  • Directs special collection management projects (i.e. inventory, weeding, shelf maintenance, etc.);
  • Oversees enforcement of library rules for the protection of library patrons and property;
  • Oversees maintenance of the library premises, equipment and property;
  • Pursues continuing education for the purpose of improving library services;
  • Maintains membership in professional organizations;
  • Actively participates in the lives of students in a discipleship role

Educational/Experiential Qualifications

  • MLS or MLIS degree and/or the equivalent in experience in library services are required. Post-secondary training in Bible and theology is preferred.
  • Exhibits solid Christian character, humility in personal/professional interaction, and a commitment to ministry;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and schedule work assignments;
  • Ability to develop a cooperative work environment and delegate tasks;
  • Critical thinking skills in examining the appropriateness of policies and procedures, operative systems, and programs;
  • Ability to become proficient in a variety of computer systems and programs;
  • Ability to analyze and report library data to oversight bodies;
  • Strong working knowledge of the research and writing process and information literacy instruction;
  • In-depth knowledge of library policies, regulations and procedures;
  • Familiar with library tools for evaluating, acquiring and maintaining library collections;
  • Good knowledge of reference materials and other library resources appropriate to the needs of a Bible College and patrons;
  • A working knowledge of office procedures.
