Head Librarian-Access Services - Creighton University - Omaha, NE

JOB SUMMARY

The Head of Access Services provides leadership and direction for the frontline services of Creighton University Libraries, the Reinert-Alumni Library and the Health Sciences Library. This position is responsible for oversight of service desk activities, including circulation, course reserves, billing, 3D printing, and meeting the general information needs of diverse library users. The position is responsible for some aspects of building operations, namely hours of operation, disaster preparedness, and public safety policies. The Head of Access Services plays a key role in fostering an inclusive, welcoming environment for library users, including leading the ongoing development of learning spaces within existing and future library buildings. This position handles stacks management, including the preservation, migration, and maintenance of physical materials in the collections. In collaboration with other departments in the Libraries, this position will be responsible for developing assessment processes required to collect and analyze data to evaluate services.

The Head of Access Services reports directly to the University Librarian and is an important member of the Creighton University Libraries leadership team. This position collaborates closely with other teams within the Libraries, including collaboration with Reference, Research, & Instructional Services on research referrals and Digital Library Technologies on fulfillment in our integrated library system.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in library or information sciences from an ALA-accredited program
  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience, preferably within an academic library environment

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Supervisory experience, including hiring, onboarding, and training staff, managing workloads, and evaluating performance.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a service desk or service point, preferably in an academic library.
  • Knowledge of configuration and troubleshooting within an integrated library system, preferably ExLibris’ Alma.
  • Knowledge of stacks maintenance within a library setting.
  • User-centered approach, a willingness to adapt to the changing needs of library users.
  • Knowledge of current trends in the profession.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Collaboration, teamwork, effective human relations skills.

Desirable knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Experience managing makerspaces and/or 3D printing services.
  • Knowledge of copyright best practices required for the management of course reserve requests. Experience managing student workers.
  • Prior experience with assessment necessary to evaluate library services or spaces.
