Director of the Murray Library - Messiah College - PA

The Office of the Provost at Messiah College invites applications and nominations for the full time position of Director of the Murray Library.


  • Responsible for oversight and supervision of the total learning resources of the Murray Library
  • Provide leadership to the Library senior staff in day-to-day responsibilities
  • Strategic planning; preparation, submission, management, and control the Library budget
  • Oversee selection of all learning resources, utilizing a decentralized, teaching faculty/librarian liaison collection development program
  • Serve as chair of the faculty Library Committee
  • Contribute to profession of librarianship on local, regional, and national levels


  • M.A., M.S., M.L.S. or other equivalent graduate library/information science degree
  • 7-10 years library experience, a significant portion of which must be in an academic library
  • Preferred qualifications include ALA accredited
  • The successful candidate should be able to articulate a statement of faith that is in alignment with the mission of Messiah College.
  • Broad knowledge of library and information field and of the broader academic enterprise
  • Knowledge of current issues and trends in scholarly communication, pedagogy, and librarianship such as copyright, plagiarism, intellectual freedom technology, and evidence based improvement
  • Demonstrated administrative and management experience in library settings, including advocacy, budgeting, collection development, resource sharing, and personnel
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in developing diverse and inclusive learning and working environments
  • A record of collaborative leadership, and familiarity with communications and other technologies related to contemporary library operations
