Director of Library Services - Life Pacific University - San Dimas, CA

JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Library Services (Head Librarian) oversees LPU’s Library services for all students. Including our main library in San Dimas, the Online library and Virginia extension. A faculty status mostly administrative with some teaching, this role works with a team to promote a welcoming environment, develops trainings and workshops to help students understand the value of using the library, encourages and supports students research and scholarly inquiry. She/He leads the library staff in the bibliographic instruction and information literacy of library patrons. Manages library resources by conserving them and by making them accessible. Collaborates with other departments as well as faculty members. This is an Exempt position, that works in-person under the oversight of the Academic Office and based at the San Dimas, CA campus.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA)
  • Oversees, recommends for hire, trains, and guides the activities of library personnel (including student staff)
  • Maintains a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for study, promoting the library to all patrons
  • Establishes, maintains, oversees, and reviews policies, procedures, and recommendations, including updating and maintaining the Library and Procedures Manual
  • Makes statistical reports to various governmental and accrediting agencies
  • Oversees collection development and cataloging
  • Works with advancement/grant writers to identify and appropriately administrate gifts
  • Obtains copyright permission from various educational journals and magazines
  • Copyright Clearance Center Annual Permissions for Educational Institutions: get annual permission, training, updating faculty on any changes, continually obtaining current list of publishers, etc.
  • Understands latest copyright laws/policies to keep LPU in compliance
  • Makes sure that reserves only contain items that are covered by copyright at the beginning of each semester
  • Assist professors in obtaining permissions from significant publishers outside of AACL
  • Check into guidelines for using various materials online, as pertains to online courses
  • Develop strategies for helping the University fulfill its mission through information literacy
  • Chairs the Library Committee and leads library staff meetings
  • Completes other projects assigned by Academic Office

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A vibrant Christian faith and worldview consistent with the LPU’s Statement of faith
  • Completed or in-progress MLIS (Master of Library Information Science)
  • Management/supervisory experience or library operations experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, pastors, faculty, staff, & leaders (solid interpersonal, public address, written/verbal communication skills are a must)
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and administrative skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects/deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Proficient working computer knowledge: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Typing 50+
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel Skills (working with formulas and graphs)
  • Some Learning Management System (LMS) experience. Moodle a plus!
  • Excellent English skills and writing ability
  • Good interpersonal communication skills (approachable, clear, and receptive)
