Director of Digital Commons - Cedarville University - Cedarville, OH

JOB SUMMARY

Cedarville University (Cedarville, Ohio) is seeking growth-oriented candidates for the position of Digital Commons Director at the Centennial Library. This position is a full-time, 12-month staff position reporting to the Dean of Library Services.

The Digital Commons Director leads Digital Commons (the online repository of the university) and helps to carry out its work. Responsibilities are diverse and include managing the operations of Digital Commons, overseeing the Digital Commons staff, increasing the benefit of Digital Commons services to the university, providing repository and publishing services to the university, and supporting the University Archives and Library Special Collections.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director carries out the identification, preparation, and addition of content to the Digital commons and manages the two part-time staff positions and one student staff position that assist in this role. He or she ensures that the operations and procedures of Digital Commons remain current and in keeping with best practices. The Digital Commons Director promotes the use of the repository and develops partnerships with other campus departments to make use of the capabilities of the repository. In addition, the Director coordinates the publication services of Digital Commons, including both monograph and serial publication, and works closely with both the University Archivist and the repository vendor, bepress.

The ideal candidate will have education and/or experience in academic libraries, digital publishing, scholarly communication, or online repositories. The candidate will need to be a strong communicator, highly-organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple simultaneous projects. The candidate will be effective at working collaboratively and independently, at solving problems, and at learning quickly.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Degree in library or information science, communications, digital systems, or educational technology preferred
  • Prior experience working with institutional repositories, digital publishing/communication, academic libraries, or project management
  • Experience with metadata standards, scholarly publishing, and/or graphic design preferred
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to provide effective, constructive leadership
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially as well as independently
  • Aptitude for detailed work requiring accuracy, repetition and thoroughness
  • Capacity for problem-solving using analytical and creative skills
  • Commitment to professional development and growth
