Dean or Director of the Warren Library - Palm Beach Atlantic University - FL

The Warren Library at Palm Beach Atlantic University announces the search for a well-qualified individual to fill the open position of Dean or Director of the Library. The Dean or Director of the Library is the administrator of the Warren Library and reports directly to the Provost. The Dean or Director is responsible for providing leadership and administrative oversight for all operations and programs of the library. The Dean or Director makes recommendations regarding the academic budget and personnel within the library and ensures that all aspects of the library operate within institutional policies. The Dean or Director is responsible for shaping a shared vision for library resources, services, and facilities in support of the academic programs and mission of the University. Position title and additional responsibilities are dependent on qualifications.


  • Establish the vision for the resources, facilities, and services of the library to meet the needs of on-ground and distance student, faculty, and staff
  • In conjunction with the Office of Development, obtain grants and other funds to enhance the work of the library
  • Recruit highly skilled faculty and staff who possess a high degree of compatibility with the mission of the University
  • Provide support for the professional development of all library faculty and staff
  • Develop annual goals for the library in keeping with the annual institutional goals and purpose statement of the University
  • Supervise the implementation and assessment of all library operations and programs, including the University Archives and Special Collections
  • Develop the library budget plan and manage the approved budget
  • Oversee negotiation and compliance of license agreements
  • Develop and implement library policies and procedures to optimize library support for teaching and research
  • Relate the work of the library to that of the other schools and administrative units within the University
  • Convene and preside over meetings of library faculty or staff according to a consistent, regular schedule
  • Meet monthly with the Provost to discuss library activities and prepare an annual comprehensive report on all activities and programs of the library
  • Encourage and support faculty in the development and implementation of library instructional, research, and service programs targeting both undergraduate and graduate students
  • Faithfully ensure the library operates within all institutional policies
  • Serve ex-officio on the Library Advisory Committee, comprised of faculty representatives from other schools within the University
  • Develop and implement a marketing program for the library in conjunction with academic and institutional goals
  • Develop and implement procedures to appropriately deal with student, faculty, and staff grievances
  • Represent the library effectively through involvement in the larger library professional community and the local community in general
  • Teach one credit bearing course each semester (for Dean position)
  • Such other duties as may be assigned by the Provost


  • Provide direction to the professional development of library faculty through the approved institutional faculty evaluation processes
  • Supervise and annually appraise professional performance of all library staff


This position requires a graduate degree in library science or a similar degree from an ALA-accredited graduate school and several years of increasingly-responsible positions in academic libraries, including supervisory experience. For the position title of Dean, an additional graduate degree is required. The successful candidate must have the oral, written, and interpersonal skills required to be an effective leader of a team-based organization. Qualified candidates must also demonstrate strong Christian commitment as evidenced by local church involvement and the ability to integrate faith with day-to-day job performance.
