Circulation Services Manager - Cedarville University - Cedarville, OH

JOB SUMMARY

Cedarville University is seeking to hire a Circulation Services Manager who will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of circulation services, overseeing the library’s Service Desk operations, and managing circulation student staff who work in Circulation. This is a full-time, 12-month salaried staff position that reports to the Director of Library Public Services. This position oversees the operations of the circulation area of the library and the students who staff that area, as well as staffing the desk as a part of the regular weekly schedule. The ideal candidate would be highly organized, attentive to details, a strong communicator, and possess strong customer service skills. In addition, prior supervisory experience and familiarity with higher education are preferred.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure the effective delivery of circulation services by the library: This includes providing effective and efficient borrowing of library physical materials as well as maintaining their organization in the library. It also includes a thorough knowledge of circulation policies, procedures, and systems. This person is responsible for maintaining a welcoming service area, communicating effectively with patrons, and providing up-to-date training for staff who work at the Service Desk.
 
Oversee Service Desk operations: This includes the responsibilities associated with actual tasks at the Service Desk such as monitoring the library’s public spaces, keeping an organized and efficient work area, and handling billing and communications related to library fines. In addition, providing basic information services to patrons and resolving issues with library materials, services, or facilities.
 
Manage circulation student staff: This includes interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, and developing the 18-20 student staff who work in this area. The Circulation Services Manager directs their work and activities, communicates regularly with the student staff, and works closely with the 6 student shift leaders so that they can oversee the library effectively on evenings and weekends.


EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Library and/or higher education experience preferred
  • Prior experience in supervising others strongly preferred
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Aptitude for close attention to details
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, interpersonal, written
  • Ability to make sound judgments and solve problems
  • Able to perform moderate lifting and movement of materials and equipment
  • Able to review or evaluate materials visually and aurally
