Cataloging/Technical Services - Memphis Theological Seminary - TN

Job Summary
This position assists with the selection, acquisition, receiving, and processing of library print and electronic resources, which includes cataloging, database, eBooks, periodicals, and library systems management; providing monthly catalog, monitoring and tracking expenditures for library materials, coordinating activities with vendors, managing technology maintenance and upgrades, and assisting with reference services as needed.

Job Responsiblities

  • Performs copy cataloging and classification using the LC classification system, RDA, and other recognized library and information standards of MTS theses and doctoral projects, rare (e.g., Lewis), and maintains the library’s special collections
  • Processes library, faculty and staff material orders. Verifies orders against library system to prevent duplication
  • Assists with collection development and selection and uses surveys publication alerts to prioritize orders
  • Assists with maintaining library collection expenditures
  • Submits invoices to Circulation/Office Manager for payment processing
  • Assists with processing donations and statistical counts
  • Assists with withdrawal statistics
  • Assists with item record additions, edits, deletes, and record entries in SirsiDynix and OCLC/WorldCat
  • Assists faculty recommendations and requests for library resources (course related, reserves, and collection development)
  • Assists with maintaining library software and system functionality, upgrades, edits, and implements new technology requirements for description and access products (ILS: SirsiDynix; OCLC cataloging; EBSCO FullText Finder; EBSCO eBook subscriptions; and reference databases)
  • Assists with standing operating procedures (S.O.P.) for technical services, policies, procedures, and workflows
  • Assists with reference services, library sponsored activities, and library operations as needed
  • Assists with library holding inventorying
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Educational / Experiential Qulaifications

  • Bachelors degree with two years academic library experience in cataloging and technical services
  • Prefer Master’s degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Demonstrated experience cataloging and technical services
