Introduction: The Moody Bible Institute Crowell Library is seeking qualified applicants to fill an immediate opening as Cataloging Librarian. The Crowell Library is located in downtown Chicago and provides library resources and services to on campus, commuting and distance learning undergraduates and seminary students. MBI is affiliated with and accredited by the Higher Learning Commission - North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), The Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE), and the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities. Additionally MBI-Chicago is a candidate for accreditation by the Association of Theological Schools. MBI operates 2 additional branch campuses in Spokane and Michigan (ATS accredited). MBI is not affiliated with any denomination but requires that the successful candidate agree with the Institute’s beliefs, purpose and values, and doctrinal statement as published on the MBI website.
Position Summary: Under the management of the Technical Services Librarian, supervises Technical Services staff as assigned, works with all aspects of the cataloging operations as well as some collection development and special project support. Qualifications: MLS from an accredited ALA accredited program with some supervisory experience; proven experience in academic Technical Services, preferably with Horizon automated system, OCLC and Connexion software; ability to work with all modules of the library’s automated system; strong knowledge of current automated Technical Service practices and systems, new technologies and trends in bibliographic control coupled with a working knowledge of current and emerging cataloging standards (AACR2, MARC, FRBR, and RDA), familiarity with DDC an LCSH, along with original and/or copy cataloging experience; must have excellent interpersonal skills in serving with colleagues, subordinates and superiors with ability to be a flexible team player who works comfortably in a large organizational structure.
