Member Awards

The Emily Russel Award

The recipient of the Emily Russel Award is approved by the Board of Directors. Any of the following criteria may be used in selecting honorees:

  1. foreign service either to missionaries or in international libraries;
  2. special achievement in the librarian's own home community situation, church, or other special library;
  3. publication or contribution to library literature;
  4. innovative library initiatives;
  5. professional organizational activities.

The recipient of this award receives:

  1. a plaque in recognition of outstanding contributions to Christian librarianship;
  2. a monetary gift as a token of appreciation for the contributions and services rendered to librarianship and/or the Association of Christian Librarians.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Any member may nominate an individual for a Lifetime Achievement Award. A lifetime achievement award is given by the Board of Directors to retired members who have:

  1. been active ACL members at least ten of the previous fifteen years prior to the date of retirement,
    and
  2. who have made significant contributions to the Association,
    or
  3. whose contributions to the field of librarianship while a member have reflected well on the Association.

Significant contributions may include, but are not limited to, regularly contributing to the Association's publications for five or more years, or who have presented or led workshops or sessions at several of the Associations' annual conferences, serving in elected or appointed offices in the Association for five or more years.

This award consists of:

  1. a plaque in recognition of making significant contributions to the Association of Christian Librarians or to Christian librarianship;
  2. all benefits of full membership without the payment of dues for life.

Life Membership

The recipient of a Life Membership was approved by the Board of Directors and at the time of their retirement received a certificate in recognition of making significant contributions to the Association of Christian Librarians or to Christian librarianship. Life Membership is now a benefit for recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award. There are currently 18 Life Members.
