Introduction. The University Libraries at Azusa Pacific University seek a creative, energetic and motivated leader with outstanding management skills and dedication to superior customer service to become the new Head of Reference and Instruction.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the organization, operation and assessment of reference and instruction services.
  • Provide leadership and coordination for reference and instruction programs both on and off campus.
  • Maintain the University Libraries’ assessment plans, reports, and TaskStream portfolio.
  • Use presentation software to design and develop effective methods of library instruction, including online tutorials.
  • Identify and implement emerging technologies and incorporate best practices into reference and instruction services.
  • Consult the Collection Development Librarian on the development of the Libraries’ collection of print and electronic general reference sources.
  • Network with faculty and administrators to promote information literacy instruction.
  • Provide opportunities for professional development for teaching librarians.
  • Provide research assistance at the reference desk, by way of digital reference, and by appointment.
  • Participate as an academic library faculty member, with assignments in liaison areas, reference, instruction, and collection development.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Education: MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited library and information studies program.

Minimum Experience: Three to five years of professional and supervisory academic library experience.

Skills: Candidate must possess strong oral and written communication skills; a positive can-do attitude, exemplary service, planning, delegation and organizational skills; conflict management skills and teaching experience. The position also requires an understanding of automated integrated library systems, reference information sources in multiple formats and high proficiency in searching online databases.

Preferred Qualifications: Education: Second Masters Degree in Humanities or Education is preferred.

Position. This position offers full-time faculty rank; 12-month year-around contract. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. Desired available start date is July 1, 2008. This position will be posted until filled.

Work Environment. Azusa Pacific University is located in the San Gabriel Valley community of Azusa, 26 miles northeast of Los Angeles. Situated on 52 acres, East Campus houses administrative facilities, classrooms residence halls, Marshburn Memorial Library, and the student center. The 53 acre West Campus is home to the School of Nursing, Behavioral and Applied Sciences, School of Education, School of Theology, Darling Library , and Stamps Library, Felix Event Center, The Duke Academic Complex, as well as numerous classrooms and offices. There are currently seven off-site regional centers including, High Desert, Inland Empire, Los Angeles, Murrieta, Orange, San Diego, and Ventura.
