Position: Curriculum Librarian

Position Summary:The Liberty University Integrated Learning Resource Center is seeking an exceptional individual to assume the role of Curriculum Librarian to provide adequate resources and services to support the teacher education program.  While overseeing a department which includes one full-time assistant and a number of student workers, he or she participates in the ordering of appropriate materials, monitors public service points (including limited circulation) that provide access to these specialized collections, and acts as liaison to the Education Department.
 
Key responsibilities:
  • Serve in liaison duties to Education and other departments as professional strengths may apply.
  • Instruct students in the availability and use of materials and services offered by the Curriculum Library.
  • Participate in instruction in the range of resources available in the field of Children’s Literature.
  • Participate in reference/information desk rotation.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled departmental meetings and Librarians’ Council.
  • Participate in Faculty Senate Committee meetings as committee appointments demand.
  • Participate in the development and review of the policies and procedures of the ILRC’s public service areas as led by the Head of Public Services.
  • Maintain oversight of the audio-visual collection and its associated audio/video media stations.
  • Provide access to print materials placed on reserve by the Education department as well as audio-visual materials placed on reserve by instructors in all academic departments.
  • Maintain proactive and clear communication with the Circulation Supervisor regarding circulation and reserve item policies and procedures.
Requirements:  MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent.  Demonstrable knowledge of children’s literature and a willingness to maintain currency in the field.  Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software.  Strong oral and written communication skills. Supervisory skills. Ability to set and prioritize goals and tasks efficiently.  Commitment to professional development. Commitment to Christian higher education and endorsement of Liberty University’s doctrinal statement.

Highly desirable: Professional experience in elementary and/or secondary education. Second Master’s degree or an undergraduate major in education.  Supervisory experience.
