Belhaven College, a Christian college committed to the ministry of integrating faith and learning, is searching for the ideal candidate for Circulation Librarian who has a heart for students as well as a heart for Christ Jesus at the Jackson, Mississippi campus.
Responsibilities. Responsibilities include overseeing the daily activities of the Circulation Desk while ensuring stability by enforcing the rules of the Library. The Circulation Librarian works closely with the library staff and faculty to ensure that all procedures and policies are coordinated and function well on a daily basis. This position monitors the physical state of the stacks and collection; plans and oversees the shift of library materials to allow for continued growth of the collection. The Circulation Librarian is responsible for the circulation of books and other materials and handling delinquent fines and overdue materials. The Circulation Librarian also prepares and maintains Reserve books, answers reference questions and provides general information to library users.
Supervisory responsibilities include providing leadership to public service student assistants. This includes the provision of adequate training, assigning tasks, ensuring work progress and monitoring behavior. Other responsibilities include informing faculty, staff and students of library hour changes, updating library displays and general signage, and library satisfaction surveys.
The Circulation Librarian also serves as Subject Specialist Librarian to the Education Division and assists faculty members by providing current awareness in terms of library resources, policies and procedures; preparing course related bibliographies and research guides; assisting in the development of high-quality collections in their specific discipline by serving as their contact person for collection development, including submission and tracking of purchase requests; teaching course related sessions that focus on research skills.
Qualifications. Masters Degree required, in a Library Science discipline with at least three years of experience in the area of public services and supervisory work. Must have experience with current ILS systems and in-depth reference work and teaching abilities. Will consider a new MLS graduate with little experience.
The successful candidate must articulate a Christian worldview in one's teaching and academic discipline and fully support the College Vision, Mission, and Statement of Faith.
Compensation. Compensation and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The College supplements major medical insurance and contributes an additional 8% of salary to a retirement fund.
