Belhaven College, a Christian college committed to the ministry of integrating faith and learning, is searching for the ideal candidate for Cataloging Librarian who has a heart for students as well as a heart for Christ Jesus at the Jackson, MS campus.

Responsibilities. Responsibilities include preparing books and other material (excluding periodicals) for library ownership and use as they are acquired by purchase or gift. Classifies and catalogs library materials according to accepted national standards. Weeds or de-accessions materials no longer needed, inappropriate or not in good repair. Directs the conversion of the collection to MARC format cataloging. This process involves inventory of each Dewey section of the library, weeding of un-needed or out of date books, searching of databases and the editing of records, bar-coding of books.

Supervisory responsibilities include providing leadership to student assistants. This includes the provision of adequate training, assigning tasks, ensuring work progress and monitoring behavior.

The Cataloging Librarian also assists faculty members by providing current awareness in terms of library resources, policies and procedures; preparing course related bibliographies and research guides; assisting in the development of high-quality collections in their specific discipline by serving as their contact person for collection development, including submission and tracking of purchase requests.; teaching course related sessions that focus on research skills.

Qualifications. Bachelors Degree required, with at least three years of experience in the area of cataloging and supervisory work. Must have experience with ILS systems, cataloging in MARC format, and teaching abilities.

The successful candidate must articulate a Christian worldview in one's teaching and academic discipline and fully support the College Vision, Mission, and Statement of Faith.

Compensation. Compensation and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The College supplements major medical insurance and contributes an additional 8% of salary to a retirement fund.
